A tightly packed flock of what looked like waders, best guess Dunlin, about 200 of them flew over course east with the wind at 8am. Also a single Buzzard battling the elements.
Highlights this week. Raven 1 flew north 27th. Skylark 2 down and c120 Redwing in small groups heading north on 28th - a fraction of total as I can't do a full count whilst working. Also Kestrel discovered regularly roosting overnight in small hole in wall of greenkeepers sheds/old barn leaving at first light.
3 Crossbill in Larch and Pine plantation on the course. Also single Brambling, several Siskin and Lesser Redpoll, 30 Chaffinch and 20 Redwing. Jays also active ferrying acorns.
Green Woodpecker by the public bridleway yesterday.
Spotted Flycatcher 1 feeding from hedgerow by the 18th hole. May have been 2
Looked to be a good passage of migrants this morning with 16 Mistle Thrush, 40+ Meadow Pipit, 20+ Pied Wagtail and a single Grey Wagtail all moving south
Jack Snipe 1 on public bridleway at 6am in my headlights in the dark on my way to work. Great view of bird on the ground!!
60 species here at least since starting work here 2 months ago. Highlights include a good passage of Wheatear, regular Crossbills, Green Woodpecker and Peregrine
Used to play there Alan before I realised golf wound me up more than it calmed me down and birding is by far a better hobby. That said saw some good birds including Green Woodpecker, Spotted Flycatcher. as this is even more on my doorstep than Turton another Greenish Warbler ( or similar) would be good. Good luck with the new job and reaching the 100, and if there's anything rare give me a shout I'm only 5 minutes away
First day at my new job at Old Links today. Highlights follow:
Crossbill 3 all day feeding in pines by greenkeepers sheds Great Spotted Woodpecker 1 immature Whitethroat 2 singing males Blackcap 1 singing male Reed Bunting 1 singing male Skylark several singing Curlew 1 displaying nearby
Lets see if I can get to 100 species, got to 99 at Turton Golf Course in 7 years
