1 leucistic jackdaw outside iceland at the precinct at 11.30 am today. Causing much confusion with local shoppers who seem to think its a magpie carrion crow hybrid.
Hi. If you walk on to the canal at the side of Hunts vets. you'll come to reed beds set back on the canal in front of some town houses. you'll see a bridge just past this asda. take the muddy path to the left. you'll come to an unused factory with a stone wall. The brook and pond is on the other side of the wall. you'll need to take the path to the left and climb up the banking where you will get good views of the brook. the chiffchaff were at the far left flitting around the overhanging branches and around the mud and tractor tyres. The water rail were at the back of the brook and the kingfisher was constantly flying past. it perched in the branches to the front of the brook and gave good views. if you get chance while you're around there another birder saw a green woodpecker feeding on the ground near the green bridge at Apethorn lane. I went to look for it with no sign. feel free to ask me for more directions if needed. Vicky
Discovered a new area today; two brooks running adjacent to one another brook with lots of overhanging trees in a low valley surrounded by farmland. Groups of birds were dropping in one after the other and I never needed to move my feet.
Birds seen:
15 + Goldcrest 6 Treecreeper Collared Dove Woodpigeon Stockdove 17 Redwing, blackbird, song thrush 8 Siskin 6 Chaffinch, Goldfinch, 1 Brambling, 4 Greenfinch, 2 Bullfinch 1 Kingfisher Coal tit, Great Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Blue Tit 2 Water Rail 3+ Common chiffchaff (one was darker than the other but didn't have grey streaks) Could have been more as there were lots flitting around but the most I saw was three at one time.
