An update on last nights sighting of the Sandpiper. There was a few of us and we did not get a very good view (it was dark and kept at the far side of the flash,it also did not fly or show its rump, and could not see its supercilium)so reckoned probably Common. However one of the group went back today and digiscoped what we presume was the same bird in bright light and it turns out to be a Wood Sandpiper! So sorry should not of been so quick to ID in such conditions! And great news for the Flash!

I was out walking above New Mills today walking towards Mellor Cross when, at about 11.55am about 30 lapwings and 50 starlings went up, and in front of them a female or juvenile Marsh Harrier was flying with slow flapping flight, heading south east, I presume on migration very unexpected and a great sight to see .

On Ollersett Moor there was a party of 10 RING OUZELS resting in a Beech tree copse, occasionally giving good views when dropping onto the copse floor to feed.

Also present were at least 10 Wheatear and several more near Chinley churn.

There was migration evidence on Waterside this evening including some very good local records.

I called on way home from work and was greeted by 20-30 Swallows hunting over the river and adjoining fields.

On the muddy margins to the flash there was a feeding flock of Pied Wagtails (10-12) and a Common Sandpiper.

Further scanning of the mud revealed a Little Ringed Plover resting and feeding in the mud, before resuming it`s journey.

A female Sparrowhawk glided over and flushed the wagtails but they soon landed, where upon another local birder (Ray Scally) noticed a Yellow Wagtail had joined the flock.

Ray also confirmed the presence of at least one White Wagtail amongst the flock of Pied Wagtails .

Other species included - Goosander heading towards the goyt (male and female) , Willow warbler x2, Chiffchaff (1),Teal x2, House martin (1),Sand martin (1), Goldfinch (3).

A Grey Wagtail completed the set of wagtails just after I left.
