Plenty going on in this small area as I walked the dog this morning. Three Chiffchaffs were singing, as was a Blackcap. A Willow Warbler was showing well, and singing occasionally, in the tree tops by the football pitch. Four Lesser Redpolls flew over calling, and then stopped in another of the trees: I don't recall having seen these here before.
There is a small area of woodland in Davenport, bounded by Barnfield Road East, the playing fields of what was once Davenport College, and allotments. It was once an orchard, but is now heavily overgrown.
On a brief visit this afternoon, I again found a couple of Fieldfare feeding enterprisingly on wizened, frozen windfall apples. There were plenty of Blackbirds in the area, a few Blue and Great Tits, and a Great Spotted Woodpecker. A Heron flew over. Highlight, and a first here, was a Woodcock, flushed by the dog from a clump of brambles.
