Cuckoo - 2 including one at Cutacre this evening. Mandarin - 3 male Tree Sparrow - 4 Female Red Breasted Merganser flew east near Westhoughton (Andy Makin).
Good news on the Tree Sparrow front. Breeding confirmed at 3 farms. Today, 2 adults & 4 Juvs were seen on a garden feeder. Adults and single juvs at 2 other farms (latter info Andy Makin).
A circular walk with Phil to the west of Blackrod (yes Blackrod - the place where no birders live).
Curlew 2 in fields Whimbrel heard calling, couldnt see it anywhere, then I found it with its head only visible in the long grass, after a few mins it flew off into Wigan Borough calling.
