Please post further sightings of 'winter thrushes' to their relevant site threads (use the search function to check if one exists), start new site threads if necessary or post on the 'bits and bobs' thread for sightings not fitting in either former category
To be perfectly honest I've never really liked this thread much as once again it's another 'species' thread which does cause confusion. Do observers post here or on the relevant site threads, or perhaps even both? Site threads rule I'm afraid .
Pink-footed Geese have a dedicated thread to enable the possible tracking of skiens across the county. Other species however serve little purpose to have their own threads though.
8.10am c.100 Redwing west over Warburton Bridge this morning following the MS Canal c.20 Redwing flew into Dunham Massey Park (also posted on relevant thread)
Looks like a big arrival overnight going off other posts. Big arrival of thrushes at Spurn yesterday according to website obviously now filtering over to us.
Next year the BTO will be running a Wintering Thrushes Survey to see how these winter visitors use the countryside and how the changing landscape may impact upon them.
We are encouraging you to use BirdTrack to tell us more about any Redwings and Fieldfares you encounter this autumn and winter

A GOOD 20 TO 30 FLOCK OF THE ABOVE ROOSTING AND FEEDING IN THE TREES AT THE GARAGE END OF TIMPERLEY LANE LEIGH . THATS LEIGH SIDE 200 MTS FROM THE GREYHOUND ISLAND. THEY ARE FEEDING ON A TREE WITH ORANGE BERRIES WHICH I HAVNT IDENTIFIED. THEY HAVE BEEN HERE FOR 3 DAYS NOW BUT THERE ARE STILL PLENTY BERRIES LEFT. GOOD OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THEM VERY CLOSE UP AND PERHAPS TO PHOTOGRAPH, REGARDS MIKE
Fieldfares has stripped Rowan of berries but now trying to find dropped ones on shed roof and on ground. c. 20 now plus at least 1 Redwing and up to 6 Mistle Thrushes
There,s a flock of 20ish Fieldfare around the Broadheath retail park(Altringham) showing very well ,down to a few feet from the driving seat ,if you,ve got the time and a camera well worth a visit.
Flock of about 10 Redwings alongside pathway at the back of the Coppice, Worsley Golf Course this afternoon. Birds allowed me to get very close to them, human presence didn't seem to bother them.
Walking down claude road in chorlton at sunset saw 10 redwings and 2 fieldfares feeding in small 8ft trees. The birds were exceptionally tame and allowed you to walk under them to within a foot or two - the best views i've ever had of either thrush!
c. 40 Fiedlfares and 4 Mistle Thrushes descending on the (Waxwing) Rowan in my back garden - with a valiant resident Mistle trying to protect his winter food source to no avail, top half of tree berries gone
Still here now eating red berries fallen from trees despite the local blackbirds that try to scare them off ! Magnificent sight in the city ? At least 20 Fieldfares and 12 or so Redwings plus a Mistle thrush hanging on with them.
About 40-50 birds now in Chepstow street - with 10+ Mistle Thrushes, 10+ Redwings, 10+ Fieldfares, several blackbirds and a couple of Song Thrushes. Also Goldfinch, Blue Tit and Magpie
1 Fieldfare in my neighbours front garden in Irlam and 3 feeding with blackbirds on fallen apples in gardens next to Irlam Fire Station. Obviously forced to look more widely for food because of the snow.
Over 20 Fieldfares in and around the MacDonalds Car Park having a very healthy late lunch in the afternoon at Pilsworth accompanied by Balckbirds. There appeared to be quite a few all around the leisure park and some around the motorway too. The total number could have been much higher.
They were there on 20/12/2009.

Decent numbers of Redwing and Fieldfare descended onto the berry-bearing trees around the Craft Centre in Manchester this afternoon. Hope they leave some for the Waxwings (should be here soon)

Lightshaw hall Flash is sacrosanct - NO paths please!
Notable passage of Fieldfares over Mossley this morning. At least 4 groups of between 50 and 100 heading SW down the Tame valley. Quite a few Wood Pigeons on the move as well.
Saw my first Fieldfare yesterday, of all places on the car park of Oldham Hospital, feeding on the berries of what I think was a Swedish Whitebeam. Could only see one, but then it was only in driving past.
