Moorhen Adult (1) chicks ranging from similar size to adult (4) to tiny black fluff balls! (5) aww.gif
Blackcap (1) on the canal near the steps up from the miniature boat pond.
Jay (1) in the trees near the first lock before the miniature boat pond.
Both Mute Swans on the canal.
Coot chicks (5) are now all spread out around the canal.
Plus the usual.

Nice little walk. biggrin.gif

Also to answer the question, the buzzard I saw last week is the first one I have seen this side of Denton roundabout. I've have seen them over Stockport. Nice surprise.

glad to hear buzzards are around that area as i saw one over carrbrook in stalybridge about 2 weeks ago (quite rare there) and wondered where they were based.

Bit of a late posting but on Sunday 19/4/09 on a walk through the Country Park and around Crime Lane listed more than 30 species including Kingfisher, Chiff Chaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap, Swallows, Pheasants Lapwings (3 pairs) Great Spotted Woodpecker, and for the first time in years a Grasshopper Warbler reeling away. It offered excellent views through a scope and was still there yesterday, 20/4/09.

ZZ5495 was ringed as a second year female at Crime Lake in August 2008 so hatched in 2007.

Usually the swans at Hollinwood branch canal/Crime Lake are the male JDJ -resident since 2001 and the female this year(HFN died in june 07) is a 2nd year female of 2005 - ZZ5495 (dont know where from, but i guess someone does out there?)
