11 Waxwings still in Capenhurst Close at 4.20pm this afternoon. Mostly sat in the bare Ash tree with a few flying down every now and then to feed in the cotoneaster.

12 just now 1730 between end Capenhurst Cl and Floats Rd in bare Ash, Wythenshawe.

14 flew in around 3-45 plenty of berries still on trees.

The 14 Waxwing arrived at 13.25 (after an absence of 2.5-3 hrs apparently) and still present at 14.00, dropping down from the top of an Ash tree to feed on Cotoneaster berries at the and of Capenhurst Close, Wythenshawe

7 on Clarendon Road, Audenshaw 

Had a few walks by in recent days but haven't see any waxwings (from the small carpark at back of Jerk Junction), though there was a single redwing in one of the small trees in a garden.

Just the 1 Waxwing behind Jerk Junction. Whaley Range at 2:30 today. It was only present for 1 minute before flying off south towards Chorlton. Also 7 Redwing and 1 Fox.

Now 11 waxwings viewed from small car park behind jerk junction, Whalley range this morning.

10 Waxwing moving from large Sycamore tree to a small Sorbus tree ( behind wooden fence)at the rear of Jerk Junction Seymour Grove Whalley Range.

Late news for yesterday: c. 20 in hawthorn opposite entrance to Makro near Barton airport

6 Waxwing in poplar tree Albert Road, Heaton Moor.

5 waxwings still present this morning at 9.55am in back garden of 24 Stratton Road, Whalley range. Nice to see just 5 mins from home.

5 Waxwing still at 2pm in gardens as viewed between 22-24 Stratton Road, M16, Whalley Range. Earlier they were in the big tree on the road outside no. 30 being pushed by a Magpie

At 10.30am there were  14 Waxwings in a tree exactly opposite the bus stop shelter in front of Morrison's at Hyde. I could hear a bird trilling just above the sound of the traffic. There were 2 or 3 birds there soon joined by others. They only stayed for 3 or 4

mins and flew off, when I was able to count them. The birds flew past the front entrance of Morrisons then changed direction up the side of the motorway towards the bus station. There is a rowan by the side of the store where I have photographed them in the

past but all the berries have long gone. Last Friday I checked all the central areas in Hyde,  where I have seen them in past years but I couldn't find any berries at all. There are plenty of cotoneaster berries across the motorway from the bus station. They only

seem to feed on them when the berries on taller trees and shrubs have gone, no doubt they are more liable to disturbance on the lower shrubs. It might be worth checking this area for birders in and around Hyde.

Forgot to put some photos of the waxwings from Sunday 10th of the waxwings in Hyde, bank Street.
From photos I took when they flew off in 3 flocks I counted a 90, 8 & 14 so there was a total of 112 there at one point.

Bank Street, Hyde - around 30 at about 14:00 - there were none when I got there, but then about 15 were seen in one of the taller trees, and then another 15 turned up - at one stage nearly all of them (I counted 28 and there were 1 or 2 elsewhere) in 1 tree on the pay&display car park giving nice close views - they didn't appear to be trying to feed at that time.

There are still 2 trees with lots of berries, 2 with some berries, and 2 that have been pretty much stripped - which would imply that they don't automatically just go for the tree with the most berries.

A further group of 6 feeding in rowan next to Illingworth Ingram along Clark Way, Hyde at 12.15pm

I took Lucas to Hyde at lunchtime to see if I could get him his first Waxwings. Id already shown him photos of some yesterday and his reply was yeah bro I wanna see some of them

As soon as we came off the M67 slip road I was onto some in the trees next to Hyde Tyres on Clark Way. I counted 26. Then directly opposite in the trees near The Viceroy Indian (the old Jeckylls nightclub) another 16.
Then as if by magic another 18 appeared in a tree at the Motorbike shop making it 60.
The birds were ranging from Hyde Bus Depot, back to the Viceroy and the tyre garage, then all the way down to the Isuzu dealer passed the motorbike shop.
Just so youre aware, theres berries galore along Clark Way, lots of trees & bushes laden with berries!


Before going home I thought Ill try Talbot Rd in Newton just for my own curiosity, its only 5 minutes away in the car. We pulled up at the location and there - was a tree full of Waxwings! I asked another observer if hed counted them and how long theyd been there.
He said 62 birds were present and had been there for well over an hour. I took some photos and I counted 71. They came down a few times to the berry trees before retreating to the treetops. We decided wed had our fill and we left, heading back towards Clark Way, and many of the Waxwings there were still present so I reckon theres a distinct possibility that c131 birds were in the Hyde area today.

Still between 60-70 Waxwing on Talbot Road in Hyde at 12, but berries fast running out.. 

Just pulled up on Talbot Rd, Newton .... the orange berried Sorbus (which the birds were favouring) is now completely stripped .... still 30+ birds present feeding on the red berried tree closest to St Marys Road .... probably any berries left will get polished off tomorrow.
Reading Andys post it reminded me that the last time Waxwings were on Morrisons (Hyde) car-park they also fed on the trees next to the "Road & Racing" motor bike showroom on the by-pass, Clark Way.
