When I was working at Caerlaverock last year, I was counting waders in front of my cottage (my garden boarded straight onto the Solway, giving stunning views!) and I noticed a colour dyed Oystercatcher (Yellow) with a single metal ring on its leg. We reported this and it turned out to have come from the Wales project, the bird was seen numerous times throughout the winter. More than 60 birdwatchers who thought they had found a new species when they spotted yellow sea birds off the coast of south Wales have been disappointed. The birds are Oystercatchers whose white feathers had been dyed by scientists so they could study flight patterns. One of the spotters, Steve Leyshon, of Llanelli, said "I thought it was a variety which had somehow developed a yellow breast"
