Took your advice judith and went looking for storm driven birds wednesday first light at amberswood flash. with water levels already up and the wind driving the rain horizontal i was hoping for a petrel or a shearwater perhaps but it was,nt to be .what i did see though was 17 tufted ducks, 1 pochard , 5 cormorants [ 4 over,1 fishing ], 1 heron. no petrels but a great hours birding
All my cages are clean and tidy, RSPCA staff on full alert, anything out of the ordinary and I will be there. All doorways and yards to be double checked.
Will never forget going down the East Lancs and seeing a Manx shearwater flapping in the central reservation.
With quite a few Leach's Petrels reported from the Lancs coast today and even stronger winds forecast for tomorrow, hopefully something might be blown our way. Lakes alongside the Mersey are the best bet eg Sale/Chorlton WPs ? A certain private site where a rare tern was found last week (not Elton) has been checked today but nothing of interest. Paul (Heaton) likely to hear about anything first...Manx Shearwaters in doorways and other daft places!
