There are three other records of large concentrations of Magpies in the county reports which exceed the 220 at Egerton. The 1994 report states "The exceptional roost of 223 at Bryn Marsh on 30th Dec constitutes the highest county record since 250 at Bradshaw in 1986." The Bradshaw record was also a roost count in December of that year. The 1984 report contains a note by Barry Shaw of a count of 323 on 19th February along a five mile stretch of the River Mersey between Cheadle Heath Sewage Farm and Sale Water Park. So it would appear that Magpies have been around in large numbers in GM for at least 24 years!

clayton vale is teeming with magpies. not saying they are solely to blame, as stoats and jays are also about, but every single active nest here shows signs of predation.
Whats the largest number of Magpies spotted at any one time in the county? At the back of our offices I have just counted 16 , I know there normally in pairs but it seems quite a large number.
At the back of where l live there's a large area of park/open land where the Magpies dominate, and it's not uncommon to count up to twenty plus........not my favourite bird.
