Hi James, The following e-mail from Jacquie Clark Head of the BTO Ringing Unit maybe of interest.
"You may be interested to know that there is now an application on the BTO website to allow potential ringers to find a trainer in their area. http://blx1.bto.org/ringingTrainers/ringing-trainers.jsp or can be found by going to Surveys, then Ringing, then Training.
All the potential ringer has to do is either input their postcode or click on the area they live on a map to see local trainers. When they select one they are then able to email the trainer, giving a bit of information about themselves (the trainers email is not displayed). Potential ringers are already finding this system very helpful. If you receive any enquiries about ringing training, please direct them to the website in the first instance. If they do not have access to the web, they can contact Diana de Palacio or Jez Blackburn at BTO HQ."
P.S. can't get the link to work, so you'll have to copy and paste it into Google!

there's plenty of ringing going on in the Manchester area, but you need to find someone with the time to train you. Best to e-mail the BTO Ringing Office and ask for a list of trainers in the area:
Does anybody know of anyone ringing in Manchester? I've just come home from a week cannon-netting waders on the Wash (I can write a trip report if anyone would be interested) and I'm thinking about getting my trainee ringing licence. I'll probably look for a trainer nearer to my university as that's where I spend the most time, but it would be good to get involved up here during my holidays if there's anything going on.
