Thanks for the very interesting explaination Debs, very much appreciated.
It should really be up to the individual to ensure their computer is clearing the cache (or whatever ) and posting on the forum every time I update the site (which must average every two or three days) will only entail more computer time for myself, which means less birding time I also think the problem is by far in the minority, so you minority out there, sort yourselves out
Thanks again Debs (and your ICT manager)
ooh feel like l've been told off Ian but to be fair it has happened only once since April.....thanks for the info Debs
Fair enough Ian ps I didn't mean Windows Explorer, I meant Internet Explorer and having just mentioned the subject to one of my staff who really like computers, I now realise just how little I understand about this and how much more complicated it is. I like Ringnecked Parakeets much better than computers cheers Debs

Computers are NOTHING like as interesting as birds AND I dont know a huge amount about either AND I would like to know much more about birds but only a bit more about computers BUT an interesting thing has happened. When I log on to the site at home the red "last update" date is 15.9.08, but when I log on at work it is 12.9.08. It's that dreaded cache thing! So Steve and Melanie you are not losing you marbles, the site may have been updated by Ian, but your computers may have a previous version held in its cache and may have given you that instead (just a theory) . I asked our ICT manager to explain it to me. He suggested refreshing my computer's cache (just pressing F5 works for MOST PC computers). It worked for me on my work computer and the new screen came up with 15.9.08 straight away. If that doen't work and you are confident that you won't delete something important and send your computer head first up it's own bum, then using Windows Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files you can clear it. However caches do clear / refresh themselves as individual machines can have their caches set to different periods of time (from seconds to years apparently). This could explain why it just seemed to correct itself for Steve and Melodie after a day or two. Machines can also be set not to cache or to select individual site not to cache. You need a much better computer geek than me to understand how to do that though. Pressing F5 is more my level. Good luck.
Ian I have a suggestion - If you put a new "sticky post" on each of the 3 forums when you update the site which says something like "site updated **** , in order to check that you are looking at the latest update of the site, please compare this date with the "last updated date" on the web site page" This will show people if they are looking at an old page. When people log on to the forum the must have to go to something which isn't cached even if the first web page is. Does this make any sense at all?
I can assure you I haven't altered or changed anything on the page Steve and also double and triple check before publishing it, I really can't explain how such a thing could occur on one computer but not another
oohhhh errrr......sorry to add this Ian but l had the same trouble with my computer too,it took a day or so to correct itself ,but when l tried to retrieve the answers for August it just kept throwing up Septembers Mystery Birds....all's well now tho'

Thanks for the pm Steve, but do they appear mixed up on anyone else's computer? Everything's fine on mine and of course on the actual website program on my computer too
