2-4 pm today
2 Ring-necked parakeets flew over the hospital car park next to the boating lake
1 chiffchaff seen on the edge of the boating lake next to the hospital car park

Oh interesting, I was going off feet and beak colour and past experience. I'm no expert on these at all. Sadly we were trying to take photo through binoculars which was rather frustrating for me and my (grown up ) son. I will look further into it. Thanks

Hi Rachael,
I could be totally wrong here, it could be camera artefact, sunlight, or just me misinterpreting the image but the Egret in the 2nd image looks to have a shorter, thicker, and yellowy toned bill when compared to the longer & darker bill of the Little Egret in your 1st image.

Looks like a Cattle Egret to me, but I could be wrong and making a total fool of myself!

Sun 14th Jan 24, 10.55am on WEBS count (so I'm squeaking!)
Little egret on the main heron island, sat in fir trees with 2 grey herons. 50 mins later it flew high over Chadwick, past the feeder stream and started lowering below the trees in straight line with the stream into the distance.

A pleasant walk over then around the two lakes and park.

Counted at least 5 Grey Heron nests, saw 6 Herons, 8 Tufted Duck, , 3 Blackcap, Willow Warbler, 2 Chiffchaff, Swallow, Mistle Thrush, Great Spotted Woodpecker

Do you think this could be an eclipse drake Mandarin Rachel? With reference to the bill colour in particular, along with the shape of the eye ring, bridle and pattern of the flanks?

First visit to park since my dad retired as a park ranger 15 years ago I remember the herons starting to attempt nesting back then now i see three nests and the one in the rhododendrons has at least one chick in it my dad would have been well chuffed

No sign of Little Egret late afternoon/early evening.

Little egret in tree at bottom right end of Chadwick Dam (back lake) (if you have your back to the boating lake).
It flew down to reeds in stream feeding the lake and then back up to trees, twice.

Sorry photos not great, off phone

Also had sand martins over river Tame by Stalybridge tip

The Council has repossesed the boat hire place and padlocked everything up with notices. Hoping this may help the nesting birds this season.
