No, it has not been mentioned on this forum but it didn't escape my knowledge! The bird was apparently seen by a single member of the LOS, who that was is unknown, wether it was indeed a Red Kite is unknown but it's surprising that such a bird wasn't picked up elsewhere, especially as it represents one of the very few ever claims from the Leigh/Wigan area. If unsubstantiated the record will go the way of many Red Kite claims...unrecorded, as a county rarity, full details are required and as for why I didn't post it in the first place? If I posted every 'unsubstantiated claim' I receive I'd be on here more than I already am , people are well aware of the county recording system by now and if they choose not to submit such records then that is their perogative but this forum is not the place for unsubstantiated claims
According to this month's Bird Watching magazine there was a first ever Red Kite at Pennington Flash on 21st January. I don't remember this being posted, or did i miss it? Anyone see it or have any info?
