Stock Dove was a nice surprise, singing in trees by the brook behind the vegetable gardens, though i see they have been recorded before. Think this is my most suburban Stock Dove in South Manny. One Buzzard was over the Hall.

I have for a long time wondered if Manchester City Council could be talked into setting up a feeding station in WP.
There would be a lot of disturbance/vandalism issues, but it would make a great facility, and maybe encourage more interest in birds, not to mention winkle out these illusive birds.
I last saw one there umpteen years ago flying across Northenden Road towards the college, but then again rarely visit.
After spending 3 days searching Wythenshawe Park for a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker after information that one is around,I managed to hear one, It was heard in the direction of The Horse Paddock next to the Farm area.
Bike ride around the Park this morning. 6 Goldcrest,(Ive never seen so many together). 2 Treecreeper Great Spotted Woodpecker 3 Song Thrush 2 Mistle Thrush Cormorant flying low towards Sale
lots of all the common Garden Birds and far to many Magpies.
While talking to an Old Chap about me seeing a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker in Northenden. He told me he often hears them in the park usually around the Hall Lane entrance.
A pleasant 20 minute walk in Nan Nook Wood at 1.30pm.

The Wood still looks perfect for Lessers and I will certainly be keeping an eye out to see if they are still around.

Would probably agree Steve. I've seen some Golden Plovers in the industrial estate in the past but suprisingly nevera anywhere else nearby including my patch of Davenport Green nearby.
Pete, These could have been part of larger flock I have seen on numerous occasions in and around Roundthorn Ind Est..200 plus a few weeks before Xmas think they were roosting on European Glass building, but suppose bit cold up there lately. Also not seen any this week since back in work. Steve
A late morning stroll around Nan Nook (borders Wythenshawe Road).
22+ Siskin with 6+ in song c5 Gt-sp Woodpecker with 3 drilling 2 Nuthatch 1 Treecreeper (in the pine/rhododendron wood) 5 Goldecrest (4 " ") c20 Redwing 1 Sparrowhawk
One very cute fox cub in the pine/rhododendron wood
no sign of any LSW
There has been a lot of woodland and water course management work going on here, which would have caused a great deal of disturbance in the short term, though should be beneficial in the long term.

The memories of old haunts come flooding backused to have a lab called BUZ excellent dog for flushes woodcock in wythenshawe park, lesser spot was seen a number of times in the park favourite location was NAN-NOOK wood opposite the running track access of wythenshawe road. Again this area suffers with dog walkers etc, have also seen them in the woods opp the old Hall, not a bad place in all, and has a good park for us with kids. keep birding
Quick walk with dog through Wood (can't remember it's name) next to Princess Parkway gave the following species:-
Great Spotted Woodpecker Nuthatch Goldfinch Greenfinch Siskin House Sparrow Jay Magpie Carrion Crow Blackbird Redwing Jay Buzzard Song Thrush Woodpigeon
Worth keeping eyes and ears open over the coming weeks for possible Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.
