Both birds at the tray this morning. It looked like one could have been feeding chicks. If there are young they are very small and not visible above the side of the tray. Male bird took off and soared high above the car park roof where it had a brief altercation with a third Peregrine. Female stayed on the tray.
No sign of any activity at the Raven nest.

Female Peregrine is now sitting on the town hall tray. Surprisingly the Ravens are also nesting 20ft above the tray. Raven sat on the nest then appeared to pick up a couple of fecal sacs then flew off. Couldn't see any young but if there's sacs there must be young.
The Peregrine is just visible when she lifts her head up and appeared to turn eggs.

Lots more action today as the battle with the ravens continues. This happened the first year they bred and the Peregrines won the day so we'll see what happens. It's great to watch

A pair of ravens and the pair of peregrines were having a good scrap for about three hours over Bolton Town Hall this morning and early afternoon. Every time the ravens came in with twigs the peregrines were dive bombing them and trying to chase them away. Really excellent views!

A falcon shot over Pole Street at about 3pm just off Tonge Moor Road area and I was very sure itwas a Hobby. 5pm a Buzzard being mobbed by 3 corvids over the same area - it sounded very distressed, wondered if it was a juvenile and weather 2 of the Corvids were Ravens. They did not mob for as long as the Carrion Crow and sat back on a pylon again.

1-10-11 male Peregrine soaring over the same area about 4.45pm

Male and female on north side of church this morning at approx 0700hrs . Both had extended crops so have fed well. No sign of any juvs, I would say they have not bred this year or if they have, they have not raised any young. A man passing by who works in the town hall says there is a camera on the nest tray on the town hall and there has been no sign of any eggs/young this year. Still holding territory so hopeful for next year.

Single peregrine high on the tower of the Town Hall at 11.15am today. Quite large with rather drab plumage possibly a female bird. At 12.10pm another single peregrine was on the tower of the Parish Church plucking prey (a feral pigeon). This was a smaller bird with much cleaner and more distinct plumage, probably a male bird.

spent an hour or so on the car park roof this afternoon. The pair of Ravens appear to be sitting on eggs on the clock tower. Both birds took off and put on a nice display before settling back on the nest. They didn't return with food so i'm assuming there are eggs. The nest tray, which is only a few feet below the Ravens nest, appears to be unoccupied. The tray itself and the immediate area look very clean, no droppings anywhere near. I'm still seeing the birds regularly from work and this last week i've only ever seen one bird at a time which could mean the female is sitting on eggs. The question is where? This morning the male took a small bird over my works and flew off east towards breightmet, i've seen the birds head off in this direction a couple of times but that might not mean anything. The birds didn't show while i was on the roof so couldn't get any clues. Cheers Dean.

smile.gifPeregine perched on the famous Barrow Bridge Road mill chimney.
(can be seen from Moss Bank Park) around 3 pm. this afternoon.
Perched on stone ledge that runs round this brick chimney at about 40 feet
below top. Peregrine facing West.
Surprisingly, Feral Pidgeons could be seen at, and going inside, the very top.

Though I didn't see or hear a peregrine whilst walking across Victoria Square Friday lunchtime (7th) there was a single raven calling from the top left hand tower of the Town Hall.

Single large Peregrine perched on Bolton Parish Church.High on west face of tower (clock face side) I think this is the female. Bird debris also on this side around main entrance door, although Woodcock corpse under north side as Simon said.

2 birds again today, first chance i've had to look since the christmas break. 1 bird on the church. The other bird, male i think, finally gave my workmates and me a taste of what all the fuss is about. After clocking every pigeon that has ever flown over our works while we're stood outside at dinner time for the last 3 years, hoping to see one with a peregrine in hot pursuit. It happened todaybiggrin.gif
Cries of "****** hell, that's shifting" and that was just me disappearing down the side street to see if it made a catch. Couldn't say for sure as it went out of sight.

Both Peregrines on the parish church perched on the usual north side. Thought I would go and look on the ground under the plucking ledge, they are obviously eating a few Woodcocks, the remains of 2 lying there on the ground.

Around 1.30pm today (16th Nov), Peregrine spent about 5 mins trying to drive a raven from Bolton Town Hall. 'Twas unsuccesful as far as I could tell.

That ties in with the report i had from a lady at work who was with Rick Parker.
I've not seen much activity lately, deffinately adult birds around but not seen a juv myself.

Late news of a juvenile heard but not seen, and an adult seen, on Bolton Parish Church
Tower on July 14th, seen by Rick Parker and his Bolton Conservation Group.
I think we need to see a juvenile before we can be sure they have bred elsewhere in the town centre...keep looking, all who work in Bolton!

Dean Macdonald passed another report he'd had concerning a possible sighting of a young (fledged) Peregrine being fed by parent(s) on Bolton Parish Church recently.
We are sure that there was no breeding there or on the Town Hall this year.
If anyone sees fledged juvenile(s) with parent (s) or 3 birds together please let me know!

David's posting of seeing a Peregrine carrying a kill (as opposed to eating it where it killed it) suggests all might not be lost on the breeding front in Bolton town centre. Can all birders working in the town centre be aware of the possibility that the pair might well have chosen somewhere else to breed this year - such as a mill with a tower (plenty of those around) - and PM me privately if they have any suspicions. Thanks.

Had a fun series of spots this morning.

At 9.00, saw three gulls chasing one peregrine round the town square.

At 9.35, Peregrine again, over Sainsbury's, being mobbed by assorted small birds.

At 9.50, near Grecian Mill, Peregrine with successful kill (pigeon), heading back towards town.
