Tawny owl calling on the railway lines 0730. last night managed with the help of a couple out walking to put out 2 grass fires. luckily did'nt cause to much damage as they were in the early stages,

30 minute walk along old railway line with dog, 1800- 1830. G S Woodpecker [ drumming] 1 linnet 1 greenfinch Pheasant [ calling ] skylark [ singing, from ince landfill ].
0700- 0800 great spotted woodpecker [ drumming east of old railway line] 1 buzzard 4 long tailed tits no sign of returning chiffchaffs, 10- 12 days late now.
Old railway- north of the lake 1745- 1845, last hour of light. 3 fieldfares [ over heading east ] 1 cormoront flying southeast 2 song thrush 1 pheasant 4 long tailed tits

Early morning 0615- 0730. pair mute swan with 4 young. 2 pairs of great crested grebe, with 3 young between them. 25 tufted duck. 1 reed bunting 1 great spotted woodpecker[ over flying north]. 2 jays. 1 buzzard.
Sounded like a possible whitethroat singing but i could not id it, raven very vocal flying low towards hindley town centre and a sparrowhawk this morning.
Group of 10 carrion crows to the north of the lake being very vocal,every so often it sounded like there was a raven amongst them. could nt get a good id of the group as i had no bins on me, was wondering if i was hearing things or if the two types of corvid do flock together. any ideas i would be interested to hear thanks.
