OK lets call it quits. No more talk about crossbill hedge( unless we, me, or you discover one). Lets hope Bolton win the EUFA cup and are still in the premiership next season. Oh as this is a birdwatching forum just to report that there was lots of rain at Elton this a.m. and bugger all else!!!!!!!. Cheers Ian.
Judith, I work fairly near to Smithy Lane and i had a good look at lunchtime but could not find anything, i found the warm air duct thingy in a corner of the little back street, cant believe a woodcock spent 3 days there! There was just a load of rubbish in the corner.
The latest on this is as follows: Paul sent a RSPCA ACO (Animal Collection Officer) there last night but this officer could not find it. However it was still there this morning till 1030am. Paul unfortunately had an appointment with the police in Bury (part of his job as an RSPCA Inspector) and by the time he could get away the bird had gone. It was looked for in the immediate vicinity at lunchtime but not found.

3 days whats it been doing. When are you going to look at it Paul? Preferably when im on lunch and no releasing it in your garden so you can complete the set
Tim Wilcox found a Woodcock in Smithy Lane, a back street off King St W in the city centre tonight following information - it has been there for 3 days near a heating duct. Paul Heaton from the RSPCA will arrange for it to be picked up and if necessary taken into care. Woodcocks in this area of the city centre are getting to be an annual occurrence - I suppose they follow the Irwell and get lost or hit buildings.
