Hi everyone, I think the artificial lake was created on the Maine Road site to help decontaminate the land, which was a brickworks before city moved there. Don't think I'm a reliable enough birdwatcher to submit records, although there were definitely at least two lapwings on the sight for much of the spring/summer, and spent their time chasing away crows, which I assumed meant they were protecting a nest. The plovers were occasional visitors, and I wouldn't be able to confirm which species they were, although they were a spectacular sight from my back window. Unfortunately the building work is now in full swing, the lake is being drained, and I doubt the waders will return. It was good while it lasted...
Re. Maine road developement. Houses and flats are finally being built on the site starting next year and completing by May 2009, as ,I think, was the original plan. There was a meet the developer meeting at City's training ground last month. There was no sign of a lake on the scale model, but only phase one was shown in detail
150+ Lapwings in flight over New House Farm Playing Fields Breightmet, suspect its the flock from Bolton B&Q area roofs. Also of note 300+ Jackdaws at Burrs Country Park, Bury this afternoon.
