Saw the Juv Long Tailed Skua this morning - Awesome bird, awesome views!
The farmer opened a field for parking (donations to air ambulance) with a bit of a walk to some fields where the bird was busy feeding at fairly close range. It would constantly jump up and fly a few yards and drop like a tern on its prey of earthworms! It would then sit for a few minutes then carry on feeding in the same way. It did this for about an hour then took flight and circled the whole field and flew right over our heads about 20 feet above us before eventually landing again. Lovely marked bird with very distinctive barring undertail. Looked healthy enough.
Good to see the McKinney's and the Adderley's amognst the 200+ people that visited today
Thinking of going out of the county tomorrow (risky of missing a Wilsons Phalarope i know) for the juvenile Long Tailed Skua that has been sat in a field all week near Nottingham, then heading back maybe via Blacktoft.
May have a spare place if anyone fancies it send me a pm.
