RE: Hollingworth Lake

6th September

Drake Common Scoter and a pair of Gadwall ( a rare bird up here in the hills) - also a Lesser Whitethroat, 1 Chiffchaff and a bit of a movement of hirundines with 200+ Swallows south.

Congratulations Simon on a Rochdale first! I walked along the River Roach yesterday from Smallbridge to Littleborough on the off chance it might still be in the area. No joy. Although there are sections of the river which are not viewable from the public footpath.

Perhaps it went straight through? One new in at Swillington Ings, West Yorks at 8:30pm this evening, though I suppose there's plenty about hmm.gif

Thanks for posting it on the forum Simon, it's a great record for the area (long overdue?) and about the right time for their usual occurance in the county. Eyes open everyone...it's out there somewhere smile.gif

A Little Egret was present on Akzo Pond at 1150 this morning before flying off low in the direction of Hollingworth Lake. Unfortunately it could not be relocated here. This is the first record of the species for the Hollingworth Lake area and the Rochdale borough.
