Very quiet this early afternoon, only highlights of a Little Egret roosting in a tree on the island on the Main Lake and two Chiffchaffs in a roaming tit flock which also contained a few Goldcrests and two Treecreepers.

Great White Egret flew west over East Lancs Road about quarter mile east of Hope Carr heading in that direction (or Pennington) at 6.30pm tonight

Green Sandpiper flew from the filter beds towards Pennington Brook at 9:53am, also 10 Teal present.

This afternoon:

Main lake: 2 mute swans, 2 canada geese, 2m 1f tufted duck, oystercatcher heard overhead flying east

Settling bed 2/3: kestrel hunting overhead

Settling bed 8: 6f 5m 1 juv tufted duck, shoveler pair, F mallard, moorhen, juv coot, Cettis warbler heard

Settling bed 9b: coot pair with 1 juv, little grebe pair

Settling bed 16a: coot

 

First visit to this site - I would have loved to have seen it 15-20 years ago!

This afternoon, at least six Tree Sparrows along the western edge in gardens backing onto Pennington Brook. Five adult Sedge Warblers, three adult Reed Warblers, family party of Willow Tits, other singing warblers included nine Chiffchaffs, three Willow Warblers, two Whitethroats, four Blackcaps and a Cetti’s Warbler. Only one brood of Gadwall.

 I also had three in the field closest to the East Lancs Road at 2pm and then at 4pm just the one, sat atop the hawthorn bush in the middle of the field!

At 2pm this afternoon, two Little Egrets were feeding in the short grass paddock on the northern side of the A580 East Lancs Road immediately west of the Greyhound Roundabout and travelling back past at just before 4pm there were four present, still feeding in the same field.
