Went to Risley Moss on way back from New Brighton, locals say Hobbies not common this year(more chance seeing one when Simons next at Elton!). Did see 2 Buzzard, 1 Kestrel, 1 Sparrowhawk, many Swift, lots of Dragonflies BUT NO HOOBBIES !!. Cheers Ian
Thanks John. Don't like the idea of people with guns either. Especially in a hide Might try Chat Moss or Astley moss, never been so have to take a weather check tomorrow. If it's really wet i'll more than likely end up somewhere with lots of hides
hi dean -still closed fridays!as i found out the other month,when i was thrown out of the hideby some fella with a shotgun in the feedig hide,i drove into the reserve as the gate was open,and a few cars were on the car park apperantly they use fridays to shoot anything they don't likelike gray squarells,magpies ,etc .As ian would tell you,i hate shooters ,ar any wildlife being interfeared with. i gave the fella with the gun what for and told him were the gun should be shovedthe last time ill visit risley.i don't like my people making decisions on what lives and diesrather go on chat moss and find my own hobbies
I've found the best time of day to visit during summer is around midday, and then just stand by the tower, not in it though. I've spent a productive couple of hours doing this over the years, and you often get better views of the woodland birds around the edges anyway.
thanks for the info may try again hopefully when its a little warmer im hoping for a hobby which would be a lifer for me

First visit to Risley Moss arrived 9.20am good variety of woodland birds chiffchaff willow warbler bullfinch tree creeper willow tit backcap and all the usual stuff
climbed mount everest and got cracking views over the peat bogs but abit naff at the top of the tower nowhere to clamp scope or sit down Also the only birds i saw were 6 lapwing ,1 tufted duck and 1 whitethrote. went to the moss hide and couldnt see anything over the very tall grass feeding station hide was empty as birds dont get fed during summer so that young learn how to feed the natural way.good idea but devastating to a bird watcher like me who cant find any birds.
