A male Blue-headed Wagtail was showing well to at least late morning at Audenshaw Resrs today. Paul Hammond found it very early, and Tony O'Mahony also saw it about 1130am. On the R. Irwell about 1/4m N of the weir at Springside, N of Burrs CP, there was a brood of 11 Goosander chicks with a female today. This is a rare breeder in GM, just colonising. Adrian got some good photos, but now Ian McK is afflicted by the same problem as me with emails (must be an Orange problem) and Adrian can't send them to us! I've seen them, though, and they are good. Also by the railway bridge near the first car park (ie not the one with the preserved chimney) there was a Dipper with a fledged juvenile, and at least 2 pairs of Grey Wagtails feeding young. Also quite a few Kingfishers on that stretch of river. Also juvenile Dippers at Summerseat on the Irwell as well today.
