Nice views of the juvenile rose-coloured starling this morning around 9.10am then seen in flight coming from a playing field on willow bank around 9.40am. Also in the general area... Common buzzard 4 ring-necked parakeets Several redwings.
Cracking views of the Rosy Starling this morning at about 9.45. If flew in on its own and sat on an aerial for 15-20 minutes. In usual area. Photo opportunities pretty bad - the light was awful. Shame really, because the view we had was great.

Nice to meet the finder of the Rose-coloured Starling (whats with this ghastly Rosy Starling nonsense?) and his wife this morning. They pulled up in their car for a chat. Apparently it can hold its own and is very aggressive so maybe it goes elsewhere when not at their feeders. Its been around for weeks he said so it must be in the area when not in the garden. Im unable to go again for a few days so good luck all. Im sure it will be seen elsewhere.

Spent around 2 and a half hours this morning looking for the rosy starling but no joy for us, most of the time watching the playing fields along Willow Bank, plenty of starlings moving around there; Anyway glad it's still around so we will be back in the morning for another go.
Juvenile Rose-coloured Starling still present today, visiting the garden near Moss Lane/Wellington school only very briefly around 09:45 with a flock of Starlings but the gusty wind spooked them.
A juvenile ROSE-COLOURED STARLING has been visiting a domestic garden with a Starling flock since 8th October (seen again today) though is predominantly seen between 8-9am when mealworms are placed out and is very rarely seen thereafter.
As the observer’s street is very small and quiet (along with other understandable reasons) he has asked for its location not be divulged but the bird is in the general area of Moss Lane/Wellington School, so any Starling flocks or likely areas around here should be checked.
Grasshopper Warbler heard from Whitebeam Close reeling at 2.30 a.m. today and again intermiitently from 9.30 p.m. It's presumably in the disused field adjacent to the footpath btwn Brooks Drive and Fairywell Wood. Whitethroat on territory here too.

The snow and ice brought a few bit n bobs. The horse field next to Whitebeam Close had 4 Lapwings and 4 Meadow Pipits - 1 of the latter sp was also seen in the estate, running across the road by the junction of Bowness Rd/Alder Drive! A Yellowhammer made a brief appearance, seen in the hedge bordering Whitebeam Close. A roving flock of c. 15 fieldfare were also flying into the estate to feed on fallen crab apples, and at one point appeared in the back garden by the kitchen window and started to eat some fake holly berries on a wreath in a real ornamental potted holly bush, before they could be shooed off and the wreath removed! They disappeared again the first day of the thaw.

Very approx 200 Pink Footed Geese heading east/ESE ish over Fairywell Wood, Timperley at 12.10 pm. Took a while to pick them out so only a rough guesstimate. 10 mins later a Mistle Thrush was singing somewhere to the south for a minute or two; my first singing bird of the season (excluding one near Sagres 2 weeks ago).

A good-sized flock of Pink-footed Geese in several skeins went over Fairywell Wood high approx west at about 5.25pm. A very quick, rough count came out at c. 350, give or take 50 or so. One of the larger groups i've seen over the years i think.

This evening, 7.45 pm a swift feeding forwards and backwards over Fairywell Wood. I really expected my first report a few days ago to be my last Timperley swift.. starting to wonder if it's the same bird each time on a feeding circuit, trying to fatten up a bit.

2 Chiffchaff singing Fairywell Wood and 1 Blackcap warbled rather hesitantly and not for long.
A distant gull call from directly overhead revealed 5 gulls migrating over Whitebeam Close very high to the east - not sure which species unfortunately as fairly small specks, would love to know how high, i'll try and do some guesstimates once back in North Wales for gulls at known distances..
2 x single Meadow Pipits flew fairly low over to the north, probably taking off from the adjacent fields.

Nice record Steve - there's a small brook that runs behind there. Be great if they were nesting - particularly with the "Timperley Wedge" looming...

8.3.17 A Raven was calling over the fields between Fairywell Wood and Brooks Drive this afternoon.
9.3.17 Three Ravens interacting with a Buzzard over the Brooks Drive/Dobbinetts Lane junction, then the Ravens flying north over Fairywell Wood and hanging around the area for a bit calling. I'm starting to wonder if there's a food source in the area. Not all that long ago a sighting like that would have blown my mind!

Yesterday two Ring Necked Parakeets flew over the junction of Ridgeway Road and Thorley Lane towards dusk. Got chatting to a chap who said that they had been a bit of a nuisance on the allotments near the football ground, eating peoples sweetcorn etc.
An adult and a first winter Herring Gull were on the nearby playing field, viewed from the footpath alongside.

The hybrid (?) Mandarin drake is still on the Bridgewater Canal, with the Mallards between the Timperley flood alleviation and Altrincham Bridge this afternoon.
Several Fieldfare in the Brooks Drive area, with 2 flying away from a Rowan tree on Whitebeam Close into Fairywell Wood first thing, though a bit too disturbed for them here i think. One flock of about 15 landed in the hedge along the public footpath adjacent to the former Ridgeway Sports & social club fields where they fed briefly before flying off. I've not been around for several weeks, but it's a rare bird round here so my guess is that they've moved down from higher ground to the east with the hard frost last night.

One Ring Necked Parakeet heard calling on Thursday to the south of Whitebeam Close, roughly in the area of Fairywell Wood - Brooks Drive.

Ring-necked Parakeets - at least 7 seen flying over Shaftesbury Avenue heading towards the Golf Course - presumably related to sightings from the allotments near Altrincham FC.
A Golden Plover called twice quite loudly as it flew over Whitebeam Close unseen at 1.30 pm. I can't remember if i've had one before over Timperley, so that's one for the list.

0730 - 1030, Brooks Drive area to Clay Lane & Wellfield Lane. A fairly quiet morning, despite high hopes with the clear skies and sun. Perhaps the annual April northerly airflow has dampened migration for a bit. Might have missed a good un though..
Singing birds of note: Goldcrest, Stock Dove, Reed Bunting, Whitethroats. Other spp: Linnet and Meadow Pipit in the abandoned fields, Bullfinch along Brooks Drive.
Annoyingly, a mystery bird flew out of an overgrown field and straight into the sun, giving a call which i don't recall hearing before. Grrr...

Conditions not so conducive this a.m. but nevertheless 2 GrasshopperWarblers giving their rich fruity song from 2 adjacent abandoned fields was really nice, and another Timp tick i believe. Male and female Kestrel were staying close together, a couple of rank fields probably to their liking. 2 Redpoll over. Across the road for a wander round Henerz's old patch of Davenport Green, which was v quiet - singing Reed Bunting and a pr of Stock Dove and a pr of Oystercatcher over were the best.

Really enjoyable morning 0650 - 0900 in the Brooks Drive area, started off with more than a touch of frost. Apart from the usual suspects, 2 sp of wader were unexpected. Highlights included:
Whitethroat at least one male seen then heard adjacent to an overgrown field between Clay Lane and Ridgeway sports club. Also male Pheasant here. Swallow one over twittering cheerily. Stock Dove heard "singing" then seen in the copse at the back of Ridgeway sports club fields. It flew out with several woodpigeons but was the first bird back. I think this is my first sign of possible breeding in the Timperley area. Reed Bunting - one singing from the same field as the Whitethroat. G S Woodpecker one drumming from Fairywell Wood, where a Blackcap gave its rich, fruity warble and 4 Buzzards disputed their territorial boundary. Willow Warbler - 2+ in the area. A pr of Lesser Black Backed Gulls on the playing fields, then 7 over high to the north and west.
Several Linnet over, and one Redpoll.
Tree Pipit - one over north calling, a Timperley tick!
Curlew first heard bubbling then later seen distantly taking off and heading south Oystercatcher calling as it flew over to the north.
I also had only my second sighting of Mistletoe in Timperley.
Yesterday a MeadowPipit was flying around over the horse field on Alder Drive, either trying to land or recently disturbed.

Singing chiffchaff by the Bridgewater Canal this afternoon, near the Riddings allotments. Hybrid Mandarin Duck still between Brooklands and Sale on canal bank.
