RE: HORWICH MOORS

10.30-14.00

Georges Lane: 1m Reed Bunting, 2 Buzzards and 4 Ravens.

A couple of Willow Warblers were singing in the border plantation, but otherwise there was a

noticeable lack of summer migrants, apart from a couple of passing Swallows.

Burnt Edge area: 2 Kestrels, 1m Wheatear, 2 Linnets, 4 Ravens and 2 Buzzards.

Cuckoo heard calling, but not seen.

Meadow Pipits did not seem as abundant as they have appeared in previous springs, but the

complete lack of any Stonechats being found along Burnt Edge bank and Georges Lane is worrying.

An hour at Scout Road/Horrocks Wood this morning produced a Merlin flying low west and a Ring-Necked Parakeet which was the biggest shock for us! Plenty finches, including Siskins, and about 100 each of Redwing and Fieldfare. Nice to meet two birders - not sure of your names!
