Late news for yesterday morning when 103 Whooper Swans flew over, with 73 east in 6 flocks and 30 flew west. Also, 3500 Pink-footed Geese SE, 80 NW and 246 Woodpigeon SW.

The eastern valley of Winter Hill this morning saw 5168 Fieldfares S/SW in 32 flocks, 6974 Woodpigeons S/SW, 4 Whooper Swans low W, 23 Brambling S some among Fieldfare flocks, 19 Crossbills S, 15 Siskin S, 90 Pink-footed Geese SW and 162 Redwings among the Fieldfares.

Sunday morning walk from Walker Fold car park to the mast, 9.00 to 11.30. Very, very quiet everywhere with the only bird of note a Merlin hunting over the moors, on the right half way up Mast Road.

Spotted Flycatcher Walker Fold Woods end of Burnt Edge

Common Whitehroat along Burnt Edge with a min of 10 Stonechat along there also.

Appx 60 House Martins passing along Burnt Edge.

Birds around the site within GM today included 14 Wheatear, 3 Whinchat (2 Holdens and 2 Green Nook) and a Grasshopper Warbler at Green Nook. 62 Meadow Pipit SE over Dean Ditch but  a Nuthatch also went low SE. Small Swallow movement during the morning and early afternoon from Scout Rd amounted to 200+ and 11 Chiffchaff were around Walker Fold.

This morning 5 Twite were briefly on the fence along the of Montcliffe Quarry, whilst on Winter Hill (GM) 1-2 Spotted Flycatchers, Whinchat, 14 Willow Warblers, 5+ Chiffchaffs, 8 Wheatear, 1 Tree Pipit and 30 Meadow Pipits.

This afternoon, an Osprey at 13:45 which seemed to take off from moor on Winter Hill, flying up feet above Dean Ditch and then W/SW close to the mast. Also 15 Wheatears, 3 Whinchats, 39 Meadow Pipits and 50 Swallows S

Cuckoo calling this morning in Holden's Plantation. Holden's Farm is being done up and, sadly, no Swallows were seen around the site, presumably because of the building activity. Quite a few Skylark at Two Lads Hill. Other birds seen were Blackcap, Willow Warbler, Stonechat, Ravens and Kestrel.
